Sound Healing

What is Sound Healing?

Sound healing is a deeply relaxing therapy that uses sound, vibration and frequency to help calm the mind, relax the body and support emotional wellbeing.

Sessions may include instruments such as:

• singing bowls
• tuning forks
• chimes
• gongs
• drums
• gentle percussion
• calming ambient sounds

The sounds and vibrations created by these instruments help encourage the body and mind into a more relaxed state, allowing the nervous system to slow down and settle.

Many people describe sound healing as calming, grounding and deeply restorative. Some experience a sense of stillness, emotional release or mental clarity, while others simply enjoy the opportunity to fully switch off and rest.

At the heart of sound healing is the idea that sound can influence how we feel — physically, mentally and emotionally.

In a world where many people spend their days overstimulated, stressed and constantly “on,” sound offers something very simple but powerful space to pause.

The Science Behind Sound Healing

Sound has a direct effect on the body and nervous system.

Our brains and bodies naturally respond to rhythm, vibration and repetitive sound patterns. Slow, calming sounds can help reduce mental overstimulation and encourage the body to shift from a stressed “fight or flight” state into a more relaxed parasympathetic state — often referred to as “rest and restore.”

This relaxed state is associated with:

• slower breathing
• reduced muscle tension
• lower stress levels
• improved relaxation
• feelings of calm and wellbeing

Some sound healing instruments — particularly tuning forks, singing bowls and gongs — also create gentle vibrations that can be physically felt within the body. These vibrations may help promote relaxation, body awareness and a sense of grounding.

Research into sound therapy continues to grow, with studies exploring its potential effects on:

• stress and anxiety reduction
• sleep quality
• mood and emotional wellbeing
• nervous system regulation
• focus and mental clarity
• pain perception and physical relaxation

There is also growing interest in how sound may influence brainwave activity. Certain rhythms and frequencies may help encourage slower brainwave states associated with relaxation, meditation and rest.

Practices involving sound, rhythm and vibration have been used across cultures for centuries, and modern research is beginning to explore why these approaches can feel so calming and regulating for the body.

While sound healing is not a replacement for medical treatment, many people find it to be a powerful complementary practice for relaxation, emotional support and overall wellbeing.

My Sound Baths

I regularly hold Reiki infused sound baths in calm, welcoming spaces across Surrey and South London, including outdoor nature-based sessions and indoor community events.

During a sound bath, you simply lie down, get comfortable and allow yourself to fully relax while being immersed in layers of sound and vibration from instruments such as crystal singing bowls, Himalayan bowls, gongs, chimes, drums and tuning forks.

Each session is designed to help calm the nervous system, quiet a busy mind and create space to rest deeply.

Many people leave feeling lighter, calmer, grounded and emotionally reset — often describing the experience as giving their body and mind a chance to truly switch off for the first time in a long while.

My sound baths are gentle, supportive and accessible, whether you are completely new to sound healing or already familiar with holistic therapies.

1:1 Sound Healing Sessions

Alongside group sound baths, I also offer private 1:1 sound healing sessions in Old Coulsdon.

These sessions are more personalised and tailored to you as an individual. I intuitively work with a range of instruments and frequencies depending on what your body and nervous system may need on the day.

A 1:1 session may include:

• tuning forks
• crystal singing bowls
• Himalayan bowls
• chimes
• gentle percussion
• Reiki energy support
• grounding and relaxation techniques

Private sessions can be especially supportive if you are feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, anxious, burnt out or simply in need of deep rest and recalibration.

Many clients describe 1:1 sessions as deeply calming and restorative, helping them feel more balanced, grounded and connected to themselves again.

At the heart of both my sound baths and private sessions is the intention to create a safe, calm space where your body can slow down, soften and reset naturally.
